East Lyme Touch a Truck to be held Oct. 13

East Lyme — Next month's Touch a Truck event will feature firetrucks and fire safety vehicles, along with a host of other trucks, and activities such as crafts and face-painting.

The East Lyme Auxiliary of the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut and the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department are co-sponsoring the 11th annual event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at McCook Point Park in Niantic, according to a news release. A horn-free hour is scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m.

The vehicles include a pumper truck, an ambulance from the Niantic Fire Department, a ladder truck from Flanders Fire Department and a 1930s fire truck, provided by Norman Peck. Vehicles from law enforcement and companies also will be present. Roaming Railroad will be on hand to give rides around the park for an additional charge.

The Auxiliary will provide children with red Firemen's Hats as they explore the different trucks.

The Mystic Smoke House Truck from the Mystic Fire Department, staffed by the Junior Firefighters of Niantic Fire Department, will demonstrate what to do in the event of a fire.

The Rotary will be at the event for registrations for Amber Alert. Refreshments will be available for sale. The requested donation at the event, with proceeds benefitting the Child & Family Agency of Southeastern CT, is $4 per person; children under age two can attend at no cost.
