Clients of Westerly food pantries to benefit from new grant

Westerly -- The food pantries at the WARM center and Jonnycake Center are expected to benefit from a $100,000 grant from the Rhode Island Foundation to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

Due to a recent report about rapidly rising food prices, the Foundation said it made the special donation to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank and challenged Rhode Island residents to also help.

The Food Bank said it will use the grant to make 300,000 pounds of food — enough to provide an 370,000 meals – available to local food pantries and soup kitchens such as the WARM Center and Jonnycake Center, which also serves Stonington residents.

“With this gift, we’ll be able to deliver more food to our member agencies so that they can provide assistance to working families who are struggling to make ends meet,” said Andrew Schiff, CEO of the Food Bank. “We are so thankful to the Rhode Island Foundation for once again stepping up to address food insecurity.”
