Kindness in Real Life: Cooper’s Cookies help pets in need

Terri Berryman is keeping the memory of her beloved Saint Bernard alive, one bag of dog cookies at a time.

Berryman, who runs Momma B’s Sweet Treats of Ledyard, said her dog Cooper passed unexpectedly at the age of 6 from myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease that affects skeletal muscles.

Her family decided to honor him by raising money to help other pets needing medical treatment.

She connected with Cindy Eilenberger of Ledyard C.H.A.I.N., an organization that raises money to support the town animal shelter and local families with pets in need, to piggyback on their February “Show the Love” campaign.

She will be selling bags of Cooper’s Cookies, a homemade grain-free biscuit that she said was Cooper’s favorite, for $5 through the end of the month to support the organization’s animal shelter medical fund.

“We just wanted to keep his memory alive and raise money for other animals in need,” Berryman said in an email. “Cooper’s Cookies is just the beginning. We would love to keep this going for years to come.”

More than 140 bags sold within the first two weeks of February.

Cooper’s Cookies are available for purchase at Grimm’s Furry Tails, on Facebook at Momma B’s Sweet Treats, or by calling (860) 389-5156.
