    Friends and Neighbors: Perron gets civilian service award

    Thomas Perron, an engineer in the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, R.I., recently received the Department of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award. He was recognized during a Jan. 24 ceremony in Groton.

    The award is the third highest honorary award granted by the Navy, recognizing civilian service of high value and benefit. Perron, who lives in Niantic, works as a trials manager for the Virginia-class test and evaluation program at NUWC Division Newport. He was noted for his professionalism and confidence and his work improving process efficiency.
