I-395 bridge project expected to cause 'heavy delays' in Waterford

Waterford — A 10-day bridge project on Interstate 395 north is expected to cause heavy delays in town starting next week, police said.

The state Department of Transportation will start rehabilitating the bridge over Route 85 at 6 p.m. May 31. The work is slated to run 24 hours a day and last until 6 p.m. June 10.

The northbound bridge will be closed to traffic the whole time. Drivers will be asked to take the Exit 2 off-ramp, travel across Route 85 and then use the Exit 2 on-ramp to re-enter I-395.

Police will help guide traffic in the area.

Drivers hoping to avoid the backup can take Interstate 95 north to Route 32 north, then take the on-ramp to I-395.

I-395 south will not be affected by the project.
