Ledyard fire destroys two cars, garage

Ledyard — Two cars and the garage that housed them were detroyed Wednesday afternoon in a fire at 22 Brentford Berwick.

    No one was injured.

Ledyard Fire Chief Jon Mann said flames reached as high as 25 to 30 feet and could be seen from nearby Route 184. He said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Dispatched at 2:12 p.m., several fire departments responded after the garage's owner reported the fire. Mann said that although the garage was a total loss, there was no damage to surrounding property. The garage was set at least 100 feet away from a house, Mann said.

The fire was contained within 20 to 25 minutes after firefighters arrived.

Besides the Ledyard Fire and Gales Ferry Fire Departments, the Old Mystic, Mashantucket, North Stonington, Center Groton, East Great Plains, Laurel Hill and Poquetanuck Fire Departments also responded, as did American Ambulance and the Ledyard Police Department.
