Friends and Neighbors: Stonington paintballers place third in international event

Three students from Stonington competed last month in an international paintball competition in Prague, Czechoslovakia, finishing in third place overall.

The students were Jameson and Harrison Stanton, 18 and 16, respectively, and Liam Bornstein, 17. Jameson Stanton just graduated from Stonington High School, while Harrison Stanton will be entering his junior year and Bornstein is a rising senior at SHS.

According to a report from Tiffany Wyman-Stanton, “These kids started playing paintball together at Fields of Fire (in Mystic) ... and have never looked back.”

The trio competed in the 2019 Prague Open as part of a six-person Division 2 Paintball Team called New England Wake. The NXL (National XBall League) Europe Competition took place July 19-21.

XBall is a type of paintball tournament played on a field covered with inflatable bunkers. The field is grass, with five players per team on the field.

New England Wake placed third out of 21 teams from around the world; first place went to Denmark and second place to Kazakhstan.

Though the Stonington High students had all played in regional and national events, this was their first International competition.
