More than 50 new youth participants signed up for this year’s Take a Kid Crabbin’ contest, which was opened this year on July 14. Proceeds from last year’s contest registrations supported the purchase of three iPads for The Light House’s vocational education program for people with disabilities.
The winner of the 2018 contest, nine-year-old Alex Smith of Niantic, was honored by founder Gene Wasicki at the July 14 festivities. Alex received a $50 gift card from Flanders Fish Market and a new crab net from the Connecticut Crabinators for catching a 7.5-inch blue shell crab.
