The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut has awarded $725,489 in scholarships to 283 students throughout eastern Connecticut.

The foundation has awarded nearly $7 million since 1983, thanks to 117 scholarship funds established by local donors.

“The Community Foundation’s work is focused on addressing inequities in our region. Education is a powerful equalizer,” Maryam Elahi, CFECT president and CEO, said in a release. “We are deeply committed to empowering youth, and scholarships are a critical tool towards achieving this goal. We recognize the roots of inequity are profound and require systemic change. In the short term, however, we believe that by working with partners in school districts in our region, we can be a catalyst and help provide critical wrap-around services to level the playing field and make higher education accessible to as many students as possible.”
