New London — Bike New London is hosting Bike Fest on Sunday, a free bicycle event for the community.

The event will be held from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bike New London at 399 Williams St. in Hodges Square. It will feature a “Best of Bicycle Show,” free children’s helmets, helmet fittings, safety information, a bicycle swap meet, two bike giveaways, police bicycles, contests and more.

Bike New London was formed in 2009 by a group of volunteers dedicated to making bicycling in the city safer and more accessible to people of all walks of life. Early efforts included installing downtown bicycle racks, bicycle “valet” services at events, annual “Bike Fest” events on the waterfront and advocating for the Montauk Avenue bike lane project.

The organization opened a storefront on State Street in 2014, before moving to its new location in Hodges Square in 2018. The all-volunteer organization serves residents of all ages and any income level, repairing and refurbishing donated bicycles.

Swap meet spaces at Sunday’s event cost $30, or $20 with donation to BNL Community Bicycle Program.
