    Kindness in Real Life: Garden club announces community grants

    The North Stonington Garden Club has announced its annual disbursement of grants funded by the club’s annual garden sale in May.

    This year’s grants support the following:

    [naviga:ul]

    [naviga:li]a monarch butterfly waystation built by third-graders at Moriarty Environmental Sciences Magnet School in Norwich,[/naviga:li]

    [naviga:li]the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center’s community garden, which provides fresh produce for the food pantry and educational opportunities,[/naviga:li]

    [naviga:li]the children’s

    cognitive garden at the University of Connecticut at Avery Point[/naviga:li][naviga:li]landscaping at the historic Norwich home of former state politician William Buckingham, and[/naviga:li][naviga:li]the establishment of community gardens by the Eastern Connecticut Community Gardens Association to increase food security.[/naviga:li][/naviga:ul]

    “We welcome the opportunity to give back to the wider community, not only in North Stonington, but within the region,” Janice Parker, co-chair of the community grants review committee, said in a release. “Many of our plant sale customers come from outside North Stonington, and we have members from Westerly to Bozrah.”
