John Tackling, a volunteer fire lieutenant with the Chesterfield Fire Company steps back after dropping a turkey into a deep fryer during a demonstration on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 along Sachatello Industrial Drive in Montville.  The demonstration was planned to "exhibit the explosive nature of deep-frying a frozen turkey for Thanksgiving, and the significant fire that erupts as the frozen turkey effectively explodes when it makes contact with boiling oil," said Company PIO Steven Frischling.  According to the National Fire Protection Association deep fryer fires cause an average of 5 deaths, 60 injuries and more than $15 million in property damage each year.
