New London — City officials expect the show to go on Monday, despite any wintry weather.

The city's swearing-in ceremony for Mayor Michael Passero and the new City Council is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Garde Arts Center. A news release from Passero said that was still the plan as of Saturday evening, despite the expected inclement weather.

The city charter requires that the council meets on the first Monday of December following a municipal election, and the new members are to assume their duties at that time, the release said. The council also is required to elect a president and president pro temp at that meeting.

As for residents, Passero advises them "to put safety first when determining whether they are able to attend" the ceremony.
