Groton — Children got to meet a holiday icon Thursday night at the Groton Public Library.

The main character of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" by Theodor Seuss Geisel, the famed children's book author known as Dr. Seuss, was at the library for the Cocoa with the Grinch event. Families were able to meet the Grinch and take photos with him before having hot cocoa and creating craft projects.

The Seuss book was first published in 1957 and has become a favorite holiday story. It has been adapted into both a famous animated television special in the 1960s, narrated by Boris Karloff, and a live-action film starring Jim Carrey in 2000.
