    Stonington town engineer resigns

Stonington — Town Engineer Scot Deledda, who was instrumental in restoring the federal flood insurance discount for homeowners, has resigned to take a job at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton as a construction engineering manager.

Deledda had worked for the town since June 2014.

“We’re pretty sad to see him leave,” First Selectwoman Danielle Chesebrough said.

She said the town has advertised the position with a Feb. 7 deadline for receiving applications. The 35-hour-a-week job pays between $76,600 and $88,677.

Until the town hires a replacement for Deledda, Chesebrough said Director of Public Works Barbara McKrell and a group of consultants who work on certain projects will take over Deledda’s duties.

The town also is beginning the process to fill the vacant director of planning position after the resignation of Jason Vincent last fall. Town Planner Keith Brynes has taken on Vincent’s duties until the town hires a replacement.
