Norwich students turn scraps into blankets for cats
Norwich — Seventh-graders in the Teen Outreach Program, or TOP, were making cat blankets for the Waterford Humane Society after classes Wednesday at Teachers Memorial Global Studies Magnet Middle School.
The students were using scraps that were left over from blankets they made for the soup kitchen, rather than throwing out the material. On Jan. 29, the group will deliver the blankets to the Humane Society and take a tour of the facility.
TOP, a positive youth development program, helps teens with educational success, life and leadership skills, healthy behaviors and relationships. The students have to complete 20 hours of community service, which includes planning, action and reflection on what they learned, as well as a completing a TOP curriculum.
