Search for new NFA head of school underway, budgeted at $250,000

Norwich — The search for a new head of school at Norwich Free Academy is underway, with the search consultant having spent two days on campus recently compiling information for a written profile of the position, budgeted for a salary of $250,000 in the 2020-21 NFA budget.

The Boston-based consulting firm Carney, Sandoe & Associates referred questions about the search to NFA spokesman Michael O’Farrell this week. NFA Head of School David Klein will depart NFA at the end of June to become president of St. Joseph High School in Trumbull.

O’Farrell said once a complete job position profile is written and approved by the NFA trustees’ search committee, the profile will be posted on the search firm’s website and on NFA's website. There is no set timeframe for the application process, he said. The board of trustees will not identify which members are serving on the search committee “until further in the process,” he said.

Lead search consultant Art Charles was on campus for two days last week, O’Farrell said, “collecting additional information to guide the process based on meetings and interviews with faculty, staff, students, parents and board members.”
