New London — James Colegrove, 7, has been learning how to tie balloons.

So when he and his mother, Karen, ventured out Tuesday to pick up food from the New London Public Schools food service's meals on wheels program, he was holding some of the balloons out the window of his mother's car.

Karen Colegrove said her son had been working on learning how to tie balloons at home that morning and wanted to bring them along for the car ride. "He just wanted to bring a little joy to the day," she said. "We all need it."
