NFA names new guidance department head

Norwich — Norwich Free Academy on Thursday named guidance department head Jessica Vocatura as director of guidance starting July 1.

Vocatura will replace Jeanne Elliott, who is retiring at the end of the academic year.

“Jessica is the obvious choice for this role,” Head of School David Klein said in a news release on the appointment. “For more than 20 years, she has proved to be an outstanding member of our guidance team. She is a trusted campus leader and has rightfully earned respect on this campus and in this community.”

A 1990 graduate of NFA, Vocatura will oversee all activities in the department and supervise all school counselors.

“I am grateful for this opportunity to expand my role,” she said in the release. “NFA has provided me with so many opportunities. I am fortunate to be able to continue to guide and support our students and their families during their time here on campus.”

During her tenure at NFA, Vocatura has worked with students in grades nine through 12 at both the main campus and Sachem transitional campus. She has worked closely with international students, as well as English learner students. Most recently, she has been heading the NFA School-to-Work Program, as well as overseeing the transition of incoming ninth-graders.

“I’m excited to continue to collaborate with our faculty, staff and community partners to provide the best options for our students and the paths they choose,” she said.
