Whooo wants to learn? Mystic nature center offers online education sessions
Mystic — Since shutting down due to coronavirus restrictions in March, the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center has been offering online programs Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on its Facebook page.
On Thursday, Kim Hargrave, the center's director of education, delivered an online education session with Willow, a screech owl. Willow came to the nature center last year after being rescued, and she had an eye injury that was determined too severe to allow her to be released.
Cassandra Meyer-Ogren, director of marketing and communications for the nature center, has been working from home but comes in to work to handle the camera and take questions from viewers for the educator to answer. The programs are broadcast on the nature center's Facebook page, facebook.com/DPNCenter, and the videos later are posted to the center's YouTube channel, bit.ly/dpncyoutube.
Meyer-Ogren says the staff have been surprised by the response to the online programs. In addition to locals, the programs are getting viewers from all over the United States and around the world.
