Ledyard — After a commentless virtual town meeting June 1 and discussions by the Finance Committee on June 3, the Town Council voted Wednesday to approve a $60,135,758 budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year.

The council voted 7-0, with Councilors Tom Malone and John Marshall absent.

The budget reflects a 0.14% increase from the current fiscal year; due to the coronavirus pandemic, towns are not required to hold a public vote on their budgets per an executive order by Gov. Ned Lamont. The general government budget of $26,946,338 is a 2.01% decrease from the current year's spending plan, and the Board of Education budget of $33,189,420 is a 1.97% increase.

The 2020-21 fiscal year capital improvement plan is $2,175,118, with major projects including road restoration, and classroom upgrades and the completion of the bathroom renovation project at the high school.

The council also voted 7-0 to approve a water operations budget of $1,425,861.72 and again voted 7-0 to set the tax rate at 34.97 mills, a 0.09 mill decrease from the current fiscal year.
