Norwich Diocese to resume Sunday services July 5

The parishes of the Diocese of Norwich can resume Sunday Mass beginning the weekend of July 4 and 5, according to an announcement Friday by Bishop Michael R. Cote. He cited "the success and positive feedback received regarding the public celebration of weekday Masses."

Under an order by Gov. Ned Lamont, church gatherings are limited to 25% of capacity or a maximum of 100 people, whichever is smaller, because of the coronavirus pandemic. Individuals or people from the same household must maintain 6 feet of distance from others.

The obligation to attend Sunday Mass will remain dispensed until further notice, the announcement said. Parishes are being encouraged to continue with livestreaming liturgies for those who cannot or may not feel comfortable attending in person. The elderly, those in vulnerable populations or with underlying health conditions, and those experiencing any symptoms of illness are asked to remain home.

Parishioners can consult their local parish websites, bulletins, and social media or call their parish office for the most up-to-date information.
