Mystic — A hundred years ago Tuesday, Congress ratified the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

It ensured that citizens of the United States would be able to vote, regardless of sex.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage, the League of Women Voters of Southeastern Connecticut held an event Tuesday evening. Festivities included speakers — with Cristina Negron reading Susan B. Anthony's speech "Is It a Crime to Vote?" — as well as hat decorating and poster making.
