New London — Connecticut State Fire Academy staff were working with members of the New London Fire Department, Group 1, to train on heavy vehicle extrication using new rescue jacks Wednesday at Ocean Beach Park.

The department received an Assistance to Firefighters Grant in the amount of $415,954, which was used to purchase new equipment and train staff to use it. All city fire department members will be trained, with both classroom and hands-on training at Yales Junkyard and Ocean Beach, through this month.
