Groton Public Schools Farm to School program will host drive-thru community dinner Wednesday

Groton — The school district's Farm to School Program is hosting its annual fall community dinner on Wednesday, Oct.7, with pre-ordered meals for pick up.

Community members can pre-order dinners and then pick them up, drive-thru style, from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Robert E. Fitch High School. Ordering information is available at www.grotonschools.org and pre-orders must be submitted by Oct. 3.

Last year, the program held a fall and winter dinner at Fitch High School, and Groton Public School Food Services Director Ernie Koschmieder and the Farm to School team wanted to continue to offer the community dinner this year.

“It’s a safe way during this time for us to continue the tradition of the dinners, and for families across our community to enjoy a takeout meal made with fresh ingredients from our local farms,” he said in a statement. The Farm to School program is sourcing ingredients from Hunts Brook Farm in Waterford and Whittle’s Farm in Mystic.

Entrée choices include: roast turkey with sage stuffing or butternut squash ravioli for $8. Each entrée includes a salad, fresh local vegetables, mashed potatoes and warm apple crisp. Additional add-on options include butternut squash soup and pumpkin cheesecake.

Proceeds will benefit the Farm to School Program’s interactive, educational greenhouse.
