Opening ceremony slated for Oct. 17 for Sculpture at Wimpfheimer Park in Stonington

Stonington — A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held for the Sculpture at Wimpfheimer Park exhibition on Bayview Avenue in the borough on Oct. 17 at 10:30 a.m.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Hollycroft Foundation, the borough Board of Warden and Burgesses and the Stonington Village Improvement Association.

For more than 25 years, the nonprofit Hollycroft Foundation has sponsored free public installations of contemporary sculpture in Connecticut. The Wimpfheimer Park exhibit will complete the “Sculpture Shore,” 50 miles of sculptures along the Connecticut shoreline, with installations in Guilford, Madison, Clinton and New London.

Contributing artists include Rhode Island sculptor Peter Diepenbrock, creator of ‘The Clock Man’ on the roof of the Sharpe Building in Providence; Boston artist William Evans and Stony Creek artist/ fisherman Jonathan Waters. Also featured are regional favorites Doug Rice, Dan Potter, Hugh MacDonald and Brian McCarthy.
