New London to host virtual meeting to discuss future recreation center

New London — The City Council has scheduled a virtual town hall meeting for Oct. 21 to discuss and gather community input about a community recreation center in New London. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

Earlier this year the City Council approved spending $140,000 to allow private firm Brailsford & Dunlavey to develop a plan for what is expected to be a regional recreational facility. The firm is working to determine costs while soliciting ideas from the city and exploring available sites to construct the facility. An initial idea from city officials was that it be constructed at Fort Trumbull, though city officials have said all available sites will be explored.

On Thursday, the City Council is slated to meet behind closed doors with Mayor Michael Passero and representatives from Brailsford & Dunlavey for an update on the project that will include an evaluation of potential sites. Brailsford & Dunlavey is expected to make a public presentation to the City Council at its meeting on Monday.

The Oct. 21 town hall virtual meeting can be accessed at https://bit.ly/nlreccenterzoom. The meeting ID is 997 8948 6786 and the passcode is 5202.
