COVID-19 case connected to Quaker Hill Elementary reported Thursday

Waterford — The Waterford school district said it was notified Thursday that a person connected with Quaker Hill Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19.

The school district is conducting contact tracing with Ledge Light Health District, and the person has been told to isolate at home, Superintendent Thomas W. Giard III said in a notification Thursday evening.

This individual was last in the school on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The school was slated to open Friday as expected, Giard said.

The notification said school or local health officials reached out to “close contacts,” defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention “as someone who has spent at least 15 minutes within 6 feet of a person with a confirmed case of COVID-19, or a direct exposure to possibly infected droplets of saliva or nasal mucus (e.g., being sneezed or coughed on in the face).”
