Norwich veterans groups to co-host Veterans Day ceremony Wednesday

Norwich — Three veterans groups will collaborate on a joint Veterans Day ceremony at the Richard Hourigan VFW Post 594, 30 Connecticut Ave., at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

The Norwich Area Veterans Council, collaborating with Norwich VFW Post 594 and Taftville American Legion Post 104, will gather at the post to salute and remember veterans from all military branches, who have honorably served in the nation’s armed forces in both peacetime and wartime.

As part of the ceremony, the veterans’ council will present the 2020 Veteran of The Year and Veteran Supporter of The Year awards.

U.S. Army Airborne Capt. Lori Marriott, senior director of military services at Easter Seals Veterans Rally Point in Norwich, will be the guest speaker.

Tom Callinan, Connecticut’s first official state troubadour, a Vietnam-era U.S. Marine Corps veteran and veterans’ council member, will perform an original song titled “Thank A Vet.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a maximum of 50 people will be allowed to attend the ceremony. Masks will be required, and social distancing will be observed.

For more information, contact John Waggoner, president of the Norwich Area Veterans Council at (860) 608-0472.
