Poetry in a Pandemic: Pandemic overload

Voices and images from the past float on communication’s flood tide.

Texted invitation to socially distanced reunion with old high school classmates.

Telephone call from a former neighbor I haven’t seen in over 10 years.

Facebook message from an old poet who was 18 the last time I saw him.

E-mailed cartoon from my ex, shedding unexpected humor on life in our twenties.

So many boats I thought were sunk off shore long ago now bob up, vie for passage in memory, my sovereign state, clog archipelagic lanes.

Mary Elizabeth Lang is a native of New London County and now rides out the pandemic in her home in Bozrah with her husband and two cats.

The Times is offering local readers a chance to share their poetry written during or related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. To contribute, email times@theday.com.
