Stonington to hold virtual meeting Thursday on Route 1 sidewalks

Stonington -- The town will hold a virtual meeting to update residents on the proposed project to extend sidewalks along Route 1 from Stonington High School to downtown Pawcatuck on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Plans for the project are 90% complete and they have already been shared with the 28 property owners who live along South Broad Street and who are being asked to grant the town easements for the work.

Thursday's presentation will be made to all interested residents, with time for questions and discussion.

After the meeting, work will be done to complete the final 10% of the plans, which will determine the final cost of the project. The town has received a $600,000 state grant for the work but it is expected it will cost more than that to complete the project.

The additional money for the project is expected to be included in the 2021-22 proposed budget that will be presented to the Board of Finance in the coming weeks.
