New London has a Little Free Library

New London — Public libraries in the area may be closed but New London’s “Little Free Library” remains open for business.

Located outside the New London police substation at 40 Truman St., the small box is stuffed with children’s books that are meant to be borrowed, taken, shared and swapped — all without a library card.

The library is stocked with donated books and was one of two gifts from the FBI New Haven Citizens Academy Alumni Association, part of a national program. The second little free library is trapped inside the lobby of police headquarters, which is inaccessible to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kat Goulart, vice president of the FBI New Haven Citizens Academy Alumni Association, helps maintain the library and said she recently placed some bonus gifts in the library: face masks and sanitizing hand wipes. She plans to keep them stocked until she runs out.
