Free Farm To Community meal boxes to be distributed Wednesday in Groton

Groton — The Groton Public Schools Food Services Department, in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture, will distribute free Farm To Community meal boxes on Wednesday.

This drive-thru event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Washington Park, 283 Meridian St.

Each box contains two types of meat, dairy items, fruit, vegetables and dry goods. One box is available per household.

Ernie Koschmieder, the school system's food service director, emphasized that this is open to all in the community, not just students. He said the meal boxes have helped serve a critical need for families, especially during the pandemic and also helps support farmers. Last month Koschmieder and his team of food services staff and community volunteers distributed 1,300 boxes.

Koschmieder and his team are also making arrangements to bring the boxes to some of the senior citizen complexes throughout the city and town.
