    Visiting cutter departs New London

    New London — The U.S. Coast Guard cutter Spencer (WMEC 905) gotunder way from City Pier in New London Friday.

    The medium endurance cutter, homeported in Boston, was in the area Wednesday to serve as a backdrop anchored in the Thames River as President Joe Biden delivered the keynote address at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's 140th commencement exercise.

    The cutter stayed over in support of a ceremony on City Pier on Thursday evening to renew the city's designation as an official Coast Guard City.
