New London — The New London Police Department on Thursday introduced the newest recruit to the department in a ceremony at police headquarters.

Police officer candidate Daquan Stuckey was sworn in and will begin his training at the Connecticut Police Academy on Friday.

Stuckey is originally from New Jersey and a graduate of Quinnipiac University, where he majored in journalism. Prior to his hire at the New London Police Department he was working as a judicial marshal for the state Judicial Branch.

His hire follows the swearing-in of six new recruits in January. Those positions are being funded through a federal grant program for three years and are expected to help fill vacant positions due to retirements.
