Norwich police, local businesses sponsor backpack giveaway

Norwich — The community policing unit has teamed up with several local businesses in a backpack giveaway program for city students to take place Saturday and Sunday.

Families with school-aged children are asked to call (860) 892-5425 to reserve a backpack. Curbside pickups of backpacks are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Black Dragon Martial Arts Academy, 113 Salem Turnpike, Norwich.

“Come meet your community police officers & local karate instructors,” the event flyer reads.

The giveaway is sponsored by Black Dragon Martial Arts Academy, Norwich Police, Thayer’s Marina, Voc’s Westside Pizza and TMJ Marketing Solutions.
