    Scholarships offered by Ocean Community Chamber Foundation

    The Ocean Community Chamber Foundation has announced deadlines for a series of scholarships to be announced next month.

    The 17th ATHENA Scholarship offers $1,000 in scholarship funds to high school youths who live in the Westerly-Stonington-Richmond-Hopkinton area, have demonstrated solid academic achievement, volunteer service and/or notable actions that display character, bravery, leadership, or compassion for others and have actively assisted girls or women in achieving their full leadership potential.

    Applicants will write a 400-word essay about the topic of leadership. Nominations are due by noon Oct. 1 at:

    The Arthur Smith Memorial Scholarship offers $1,000 to Stonington and Westerly high school seniors.

    Youths must be in their senior year and must be attending some form of higher education in September 2022 (vocational school, tech school, cosmetology school, college, industry certification, etc.)

    Youth must have demonstrated average or above academic achievement, and primary consideration is given to those entering the trades – construction, electrical, plumbing, etc.

    The Konicki Family Scholarship applications for $1,000 awards are available at the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce office, or the Guidance Departments at Westerly High School and Stonington High School.

    The Angela Smith Memorial Scholarship offers $1,000 to Stonington and Westerly high seniors.

    Youth must be in their senior year and must be attending some form of higher education in September 2022.

    Youth must have demonstrated “average or above” academic achievement, and primary consideration is given to student’s history of volunteerism at community events and/or involvement supporting non-profits in the community.

    The Falguni B. Hauser Memorial Scholarship will offer $500 to students who have lived in Westerly or Pawcatuck for at least one year and will be attending college in September 2022. Youth must have demonstrated solid academic achievement, active participation in Scouting and/or the arts and demonstrated volunteer service and/or notable actions that display compassion and/or advocacy that results in an improved quality of life for others in the community. Special consideration will be given to youths who have persevered while overcoming a challenge (medical issue, family crisis, etc.)

    Applications are available at the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce office, or at the Guidance Departments at The Prout School, St. Bernard, Westerly High, Chariho High and Stonington High Schools.

    The Mary Lou Serra Memorial Scholarship offers $1,000 to Westerly high school seniors who have lived in Westerly their entire lives.

    Youths must be attending some form of higher education in September 2022 (vocational school, tech school, college, industry certification, etc.).

    Youth must have demonstrated “average or above” academic achievement, been involved in drug/alcohol prevention, church, and/or general involvement in supporting the Westerly community through volunteer service.

    Special consideration will go to youths who have persevered while overcoming a challenge or for notable actions that display compassion and/or advocacy.

    Applications are available at the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce office, or at the Guidance Department at Westerly High School.

    All applicants must attend the Nov. 2 ATHENA dinner at the Lake of Isles Golf Course, as awards will be given that evening.
