Norwich Public Utilities donates $1,000 to UCFS to celebrate Public Power Week

Norwich — In recognition of Public Power Week this week, Norwich Public Utilities is making a $1,000 donation to United Community and Family Services in recognition of the outstanding job its front-line health care workers have done for the region throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, NPU officials said.

“The employees of NPU are very proud of the critical role we play in the day-to-day lives of our customers,” NPU General Manager Chris LaRose said in a news release Tuesday. “We are also inspired by the incredible commitment demonstrated by the men and women of UCFS over the past 18 months in service to our community.”

UCFS has been at the forefront of the local response to the pandemic, including more than 13,000 coronavirus tests, providing more than 10,000 vaccinations and running a drive-thru food pantry that has served more than 16,000 people.

“Throughout the pandemic, our team has shown true dedication and determination,” said Pamela Allen Kinder, vice president of business development at UCFS Healthcare. “We are thrilled that NPU has recognized our team during Public Power Week.”

Public Power Week is an annual national observance coordinated by the American Public Power Association, which represents nonprofit, community-owned utilities that power 2,000 towns and cities nationwide. More information is available at PublicPower.org.
