Your Turn: Bountiful harvest at Grateful Acres

My wife Alicia and I would like to share a couple harvest photos from our awesome new venture; Grateful Acres in Waterford located on the old Alfiero Nursery property at the corner of Braman and Pepperbox roads.

We have done some experimental plantings this year including blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, squash, melon, pumpkin, watermelon and more. The property came with a few pear and apple trees, along with many mature conifers grown previously. Of course we found some wild raspberries and blackberries too, along with many rabbits!

Hopefully next year will be easier to invite the community on the property for certain events we could host. We could possibly be a wedding venue. How does a cross country ski race sound this winter?

It’s been a blessing to get outside and do some farming this year, and we have already started planting for next year with several hundred garlic plants, tulips and more to come. I’m also planning to offer art classes onsite and considering dates and currently accepting applicants.

I learned many lessons and so much about nature through farming/gardening this year and it’s been challenging and a privilege. We are grateful for the opportunity!
