Groton Independent Town Committee announces endorsements

The Groton Independent Town Committee announced endorsements of candidates for the upcoming municipal election.

The committee said it "is excited to offer our support to the following candidates who have shown that they are committed to serving Groton residents with accountability, transparency and creative leadership. Our endorsement criteria included: integrity of opinion and actions; commitment and responsiveness to public engagement; dedication to transparent and independent service; creative and prudent ideas for Groton's current and future needs."

The Groton Independent Town Committee endorsed for Town Council: Portia Bordelon (D), Robert Boris (R), Bill Furgueson (R), Juliette Parker (D), and Scott Westervelt (R). The committee also endorsed for Board of Education: Dean Antipas (R), Thomas Frickman (R), Ian Thomas (D), and Beverly Washington (D).

"We are not selecting a full roster of candidates for endorsement on either body because frankly, there are not enough candidates on offer that have affirmatively earned our support," the committee stated in the news release. "With so much potential on the horizon for Groton, and so much at stake due to recent failures of leadership, we encourage all Groton voters to also cast their votes with as judicious thought as we will be. Whomever you vote for, we thank you for taking time to vote in local elections."

The committee also said "it will be hosting a series of discussions and events in the coming weeks to foster engagement, accessibility, knowledge and confidence in local government and municipal issues. Information will be available on our Facebook page."
