Groton — Merle Emmons of Mystic was raking up clams Wednesday in the water at Bluff Point State Park.
He said he was having pretty good luck and would use the clams to make chowder.
"I'd rather be here than sitting at home," said the retiree, who spends as many mornings as he can clamming or digging for scallops.
