Groton — Bruce Jones, a Groton Town councilor, got a bird's-eye view from a window at the top of the Fort Griswold monument on Saturday.
It was his first time climbing the 166 steps to the top, and he was accompanied by his wife, Louise Miller.
They were visiting during the Monument House Museum's annual open house. The event was hosted by the Friends of Fort Griswold and had sweets available in the museum and a tour of the fort. But, due to the weather, the tradition of toasting marshmallows and playing old-fashioned games for kids was canceled.
