Friends & Neighbors: Old Lyme’s Goodman fourth in USTFA XC Championships
Old Lyme's Laila Goodman finished fourth in the USTFA Junior Olympics National Cross Country Championships on Dec. 11 at Bourbon County Park in Paris, Kentucky.
Goodman, running for the Litchfield Track Club, competed in the girls' 9-10 division and finished the 3,000-meter course in 12:22.82.
Elin Beeler of the Cascade Striders (Bellevue, Wash.) won the race in 11:40.01.
Goodman qualified by winning the USTRA Region I (New England) title on Nov. 21 at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass.
She was the 2019 national champion in the 7- to 8-year-old division but there was no meet held in 2020 due to COVID-19.
