Norwich tax collector's office closed to public this week

Norwich — The city tax office is closed to the public this week due to staffing shortages and the increase in COVID-19 cases, the city manager’s office announced.

The closure comes as city taxpayers must pay the second installment this month on 2020-21 real estate taxes, along with supplemental motor vehicle bills. The city tax office will be closed to the public until Monday, Jan. 10.

City taxpayers can make payments online at norwichct.org/taxes. Credit or debit card payments carry a 2.65% ($1.50 minimum) fee and online ACH/Electronic check payments carry a flat $1.50 fee.

Payments of nondelinquent taxes can be made at any Norwich Peoples United Bank, including the drive-thru service, by cash or check at the following locations:

    [naviga:li]42 Town St. (inside Stop & Shop)[/naviga:li]

Norwich taxpayers do not have to be regular People’s United Bank customers to make tax payments.

Payments also can be made by check through the mail, sent to Tax Collector, Room 105, 100 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360, or by check in the drop box at the table inside the City Hall Broadway entrance, where a Norwich police officer is stationed.

The city anticipates reopening the tax office to in-person payments starting Monday, Jan. 10. For updated information, check the city's website.
