    Let's Go: Calling all birders

All residents and visitors to the Norwich area are invited to participate in The Global Great Backyard Bird Count from Feb. 18-21.

Participating is easy, fun to do alone, or with others, and can be done anywhere you find birds.

Step 1 – Decide where you will watch birds.

Step 2 – Watch birds for 15 minutes or more, at least once over the four days, Feb. 18-21.

Step 3 – Count all the birds you see or hear within your planned time/location and use the best tool for sharing your bird sightings:

If you are a beginning bird admirer and new to the count, try using the Merlin Bird ID app.

If you have participated in the count before, try eBird Mobile app or enter your bird list on the eBird website (desktop/laptop).

    Instructions for Group Counts

Learn how your birding community group can count birds, together, for 15 minutes or more, during this year’s event.

In the past Norwich has been the leading Connecticut city with the greatest citizen scientist participation. This is a great way to safely participate in a Norwich event. Participating in the bird count is perfect for young children just learning to count. It’s perfect to do on a walk. While it’s so difficult to visit with those we love, bird counts can be done together while speaking on the phone. What do you see looking out your window? Counts can be done in parking lots and in parks. Counts can be done wherever birds gather.
