Groton — A cadre of students from the University of Connecticut's Avery Point campus hit the water in sailboats Wednesday, some of them for the first time ever, their instructor said.

The class, Watercraft Adventures, is part of UConn's Kinesiology program; the school also offers other basic and advanced sailing courses as well as a club.

"This is just so great to have this waterfront as a resources to be able to offer these programs," said Prescott Littlefield, the instructor and manager of waterfront programs.
