Stonington budget referendum on April 26
Stonington — Voters will decide whether or not to approve the proposed 2022-23 budget of $76.7 million, and its 0.19-mill tax rate decrease, at an April 26 referendum.
Voting will take place from noon to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

[naviga:li]Districts 1 and 3, Stonington Borough firehouse, 100 Main St.[/naviga:li]
[naviga:li]District 2, former Pawcatuck Middle School, 40 Field St., Pawcatuck. [/naviga:li]
[naviga:li]Districts 4 and 5, B.F. Hoxie Engine Co. firehouse, 34 Broadway, Mystic. [/naviga:li]

The results will be announced when the town meeting resumes at 8:30 that same night at Town Hall.
Despite a 4.9% increase in spending, the tax rate would decrease to 23.66 mills. The Board of Finance was able to decrease the tax rate while increasing spending by $3.6 million because of an increase in the grand list and by using $1.5 million from the town's $18.1 million unassigned fund balance.
While home and business owners will see a decrease in their real estate tax bill, a number of car owners likely will see an increase in car tax bills because car values have increased over the past year.
