Bumgardner receives Democratic endorsement for 41st House district

Groton — Aundré Bumgardner, a Groton Town Councilor and former state representative, announced that he accepted Wednesday the Democratic nomination for the 41st state House District and received unanimous support of delegates.

“I want to thank the Groton and Stonington Democratic delegates for supporting my nomination as the Democratic endorsed candidate for the 41st State House District this evening," Bumgardner said in a statement. "I am excited to get out into communities across Groton and Stonington, and hear what is on neighbors' minds. While some may already know my policy platform includes creating more ways to lower taxes for working families, strengthening our coastal resiliency, and investing in our schools, I can't wait to hear directly from residents from both towns on issues that concern them."

Bumgardner also is a member of the City of Groton Planning and Zoning Commission. Bumgardner, who held the 41st district seat from 2015 to 2017, was the youngest person elected to the General Assembly, according to his biography.

State Rep. Joe de la Cruz, D-Groton, who currently holds the 41st House seat but is not seeking reelection, said in a statement that he's sad to be leaving the legislature, but is "absolutely excited to know the person taking my place will continue to support and respond to our communities, which is very much needed right now."

With the reconfiguration of House seats, the 41st district will cover parts of Groton and Stonington.

Republican Robert Boris also is running for the seat, with a Republican convention scheduled for Tuesday.
