    Josh Piver scholarship fundraiser slated for June 26

    Stonington — The Josh Piver Scholarship Committee will hold a Pig and Oyster Roast Fundraiser on June 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society.

    The pig and oyster roast will be prepared by local restaurateurs Bill Middleton and Dan Meiser, with live music by Jeff Lewis along with a silent auction, soft drinks donated by Coca-Cola, dessert by Grace Bayer and a cash bar.

    Tickets can be purchased at bit.ly/joshpiver22, at the Portuguese society at 26 Main St. in the borough or by contacting Erika Piver at pivere@yahoo.com. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.

    The committee awarded five $5,000 scholarships this year to to Stonington High School seniors and two $2,500 scholarships to Stonington High School alumni currently attending college.

    Josh Piver, a Stonington High School graduate and soccer player, was 23 when he was killed on Sept. 11, 2001, in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, where he worked on the 105th floor for Cantor Fitzgerald.
