New London has new online property information tool

New London — The city has a new online tool that provides property information.

The city’s Geographical Information System, called MAPGEO, is created and provided by Boston-based technology company Applied Geographics. It is an online tool that provides information about every property in New London. The system is now available as a base map and over time other departments can add their layers, Assessor Donna Ralston said.

“The Fire department can add the locations of hydrants and all the other departments can add their data — Police, Water, Planning, Wetlands — for everyone to see by going to the 'Themes' tab after that data is entered,” Ralston said in a statement. “We can add historic districts, enterprise zones and properties that are listed as Brown Fields. It’s an amazing planning tool.”

Ralston said she is still making some tweaks to the system, but the basics are functional. The GIS maps can be accessed at bit.ly/newlondongis.

Users can search by address, click on the parcel and see the following information: owner’s name, last sale date, value, zone, lot size, property ID number, volume and page of the deed in City Hall records and more. There is also a link to the Vision Government Solution property record card.

Ralston said the tool will be especially handy for property owners when they need to notify neighbors who live within 200 feet, as may be required by the Building, Planning and Zoning departments, in advance of a zoning appeal or work to be done on their property.

The city also will eventually be able to keep track of all property sales, Ralston said, and can be used for revaluation that’s coming up in 2023. She said she instituted the same program in East Hampton and Norwich, where she also served as assessor prior to coming to New London last July.
